Breezes, Bentleys and BBQs

Alas, the time finally came in November to make the quintessential Australian purchase – a bbq. After much deliberation (read: faffing), Mike decided on the ultimate behemoth of barbies. It certainly was a timely and welcome addition to our back garden as the warmer weather arrived.

Kerry’s Mum and Dad popped down from BrisVegas for a few days in November. Lots more sightseeing! The National Rhododendron Garden in the Dandenongs were absolutely spectacular although with the small heatwave Victoria was having that week (38 degree days) some of the plants were a bit sunburnt. The next adventure was the Open Range Zoo at Werribee where we marvelled at the Meerkats. They'd make the perfect pet.

Lastly, one of the great Melbourne traditions of fish and chips while watching the sunset at St Kilda beach.

In between entertaining the visitors and travelling about there was work to be done. Kerry is currently working for an independent non profit organisation which operates as a training, resource, advisory and advocacy body for Children's Services in Victoria.

They are a small team of about 10-12 people and she is on contract as a Projects Administrator. Kerry is organising training sessions, helping to develop their database and acting as the IT helpdesk amongst other things! She is also keeping her hand in with the desktop publishing side of things by designing their training calendar, the design of which as been adopted by the other States. After five months she has just about made herself indispensable.

Mike is still enjoying his work with Shell and is becoming a fitness freak. He is riding to work and is participating in an exercise regime with several of his work colleagues. They are running around “The Tan” (the Botanical Gardens for the uninitiated), playing touch football and going for the occasional swim. See what being back in Australia does for you!
